Herbal Tea and Fasting

Herbal (not so tea). All of the real teas wanted me to get together with you and ask you not to call this swill tea.  It’s not. Black tea, green tea, white tea…. Come from tea leaves. Herbal T** comes from roots, fruits, flowers, bark, grass, and all other manner of almost dirt. (For info about fasting and real tea, check this article.)

Now don’t get me wrong–herbal tea is my jam…  love that shit. I have it most every day. In my feeding window.  Now I could go into all of the pathways affected by all of the different “herbal teas” and report on the mechanism of action of each to show that they are not conducive to a fast.  But I just don’t have to, all I have to do is say one word. Flavonoids.

Flavonoids interfere with digestion, absorption, and metabolism of carbohydrates.  Well, James, there shouldn’t be any carbohydrates in there… You’re absolutely correct.

But wait, there’s more.  Each and every subclass of flavonoids has antidiabetic properties…wait for it…. INCLUDING improving insulin secretion.  In fact, various flavonoids demonstrate capabilities of stimulating insulin-dependent AND insulin-independent glucose uptake in tissues.

DON’T be sad, this is amazing news.  It is the perfect beverage for your feeding window.

And if any of this upsets, you remember you don’t have to listen to what I say I’m just a fucking guy that looks at stuff and writes it down.  I will in no way judge you one way or the other. ????
